[for Terry]

Honestly, Sean's almost surprised that he makes it all the way to Terry's door without turning right around again. All he really wants to do is hit things until he makes the problem bad enough that talking is no longer an option, but he promised Meredith he'd try and that, if nothing else, is what keeps his feet moving. He still has no idea what he's supposed to say and while he'd be loathe to call it anything of the sort, under the thick haze of anger that's thankfully clouding out everything else, he's nervous as hell, but he promised. Sean may not like to admit it, but Jamie was right. He needs to man up because this is his time to step in and be the damn father he still has trouble believing he is.

He's just thankful that he held his ground enough not to promise results.

"Theresa?" he calls loudly, not so much knocking as just pounding on the door until he gets a sign that she's in. "We need ta talk."

Terry opens the door with wide, startled eyes a million different scenarios running through her mind as to why her father would pound on her door demanding to talk. Most of them aren't pleasant but are constant, fears ingrained thanks to years of facing the worst the world has to offer.

"What?" she asks, taking a step back to look him up and down, make sure he's in one piece. "What's goin' on?"

Oh God, now he's actually expected to say things that aren't yelling, isn't he? He briefly feels bad for worrying her, but that and his uncertainty fortunately stay nice and buried under the rest of it and his expression remains steely.

"So Jamie jus' paid me a visit," he grits out, wanting to have to spell out as little of this as possible.

"He's aggravating, but ye didn't have to come banging down my door because of it," she says, eyes rolling. Jamie's always been the sort of person who knew how to poke and prod at someone until they snapped back. What was even more annoying was that he either made someone feel bad about it, or just managed to anger them furthur. Considering her own feelings toward Jamie at the moment, it isn't hard to imagine that look on Sean's face when it came to him.

Of course, that's when it dawns on her. Sean didn't have any need to come to her about Jamie, he was a grown man -- unless it was about her.

Though her voice doesn't have the volume Sean's does, the anger behind it easily matches his. "He didn't."

At least her reaction saves Sean the trouble of asking her if it's true. If it was all bull, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, right?

"Didn't what?" Sean spits, belatedly remembering that he's supposed to be staying calm, going about this rationally. But then, there's nothing rational about any of this, as far as he's concerned. "Didn't feel the need t'inform me that the fella who thinks he's weddin' me daughter likes ta bugger a married man on the side? Sorry ta disappoint."

Terry's mouth drops for a moment, before the words she should have told Jamie the first time come spilling out. There's no stopping them, either, with all the pent up anger at Jamie finally having some kind of outlet. Unfortunately, she's yelling at the wrong person, even if he'd started it first. "It's none of your bloody business, you or Jamie, and he had no right goin' and tellin' you!"

"Like ye had the right ta keep this from me?" Sean asks incredulously, never mind actually stopping to question whether she's got a point or not. "Puttin' on the normal front an' lyin' to the lot of us? Ye're me family, Terry, an' seein' as I like ta think I'd've been invited to this farce ye'd be callin' a wedding, aye, I'd say it's me business."

With a scoff, Terry turns around and walks back into her hut -- her home, where she's having a yelling match with her father, something she never thought would happen. Not in this context, anyway; the last time they'd truly fought, she ended up hitting him over the head with a large rock.

"I said it wasn't yer business." She spins around to face him again, hurt and anger on her face in equal measure. "I didn't say I was goin' to keep it from ye."

[identity profile] missingthekeep.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
Sean damn near laughs at that, reigning it in at the last second with an incredulous, derisive scoff. "Right, 'cause ye've been so forthcomin' f'r the past God only knows how long. What, were ye gonna write it all out on the damned invitations?" He follows her step for step, his paces measured and steady to a degree that's completely at odds with how off-balance he feels. "I s'pose Fick an' the missus'd be sittin' on the groom's side, then, would they? I'm nae quite sure what the etiquette there is. Christ, how in the hell were ye expectin' me ta take this, Theresa? I'm honestly baffled here."

[identity profile] faithanbegorrah.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I expected ye to take it just like ye are," she says, throwing her hands up in the air. "Forgive me for nae chompin' at the bit to tell ye when I knew ye'd be this way!"

[identity profile] missingthekeep.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, so there is some spark o' sanity left in there!" Sean shoots back, looking upwards like this comes as a bloody message from on high. "If'n ye know it's such a royally arsed-up situation an' any normal person'd blow a fuse, why in the hell would ye still be subjectin' yerself to't?"
